Baking

Baking

What you will need:

  • A simple recipe

  • Ingredients

  • Mixer for you and your little

  • Possibly an oven

How I approached this:

For baking activities, I like to pick the simple recipes that have few ingredients and steps. Theo is so little right now (1.5 years); his attention span is so short.

Typically I get the bake boxes from the grocery store where you just need to ad milk, egg butter, etc.

If your child is older you could go with something more complex depending on their interest/abilities. There are endless ways to make baking easy or more difficult.

Baking activities are perfect for young children. It is particularly beneficial when they can become hands on touching or mixing with hands. I have a child size spatula or two for Theo to use when we bake.

If he is not mixing Theo really likes to pour the dry mixes in. Sometimes we count eggs and measure together also.

Using hands to mix is such a wonderful sensory experience. They learn not only from their hands on a strict sensory level but on a scientific level when dry and wet ingredients are added together.

Let your child lead you through this one. They will tell you what they are up to getting in on and what they are uncomfortable doing.

Talk about your steps. Let them take on appropriate steps. Remember items can get dangerously hot when baking.
