Counting in Mirror

Counting in Mirror

What you need

  • A Mirror

How I approached this:

This was a new, fun approach to counting. Usually if we just roll count or try and use our fingers while we count feel gets bored very quickly. So, we try counting in the mirror. First I counted one through five then I had him help.

Once he helped a few times, I had him show me counting one through five on his fingers in the mirror. The first time I asked, he only got one and two then jump to four. After a few tries, he was able to get one through five in order with the correct amount of fingers.

As time went on, I noticed he started to get bored, so I decided to start making funny faces as I counted. This is a very easy activity to make silly and keep children interested. We were only at the mirror for about five minutes. Within those five minutes he learned how to count using one to one correspondence with his fingers. We will be doing this often for practice!
