How I approached this:

Theo has had a high interest for car washes for the longest! This activity I pre-set up. I made sure his car was available, I filled a bucket with soap and water, and I left him a fresh sponge.

As he started to wash the car, I started a conversation about the car wash. We talked about the process of a car wash, what the person was responsible for when waving in the person driving the car and the last step of entering the car wash, putting your vehicle in a neutral position. He instantly wanted to take and give “roles”.

He asked me to be the person to wave in his vehicle, so I told him once I waved him in it was time to put his vehicle in neutral! He created a space for the car wash to take place, in our dog pool. Once the car wash was over, he removed a vehicle from the dog pool. When he drove in the next “vehicle “he reminded me it needed to be in neutral.

Theo has known the car wash for a while now, but now he has learned proper term for them. Once our discussion is over, he takes the vehicles into his own little car wash!
